How to enroll contacts in HubSpot sequences from a workflow, without Enterprise
Short answer: HubSpot's own “Enroll in a sequence” workflow action requires a Sales Hub or Service Hub Enterprise subscription. On Professional, you can enroll contacts by hand (up to 50 at a time), or add the action to your workflows with a marketplace app such as EnrollCue. The sequence itself still runs in HubSpot, from the sender's own inbox.

Why workflows can't enroll contacts on Professional
Sequences are available from Sales Hub and Service Hub Professional: a rep can enroll contacts from a contact record, a list view or their inbox. But enrolling and unenrolling contacts from a workflow is limited to Enterprise accounts. So on Professional, every enrollment depends on someone remembering to do it, at the right moment, for the right contacts.
Your options on Professional
| Option | How it works | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Enroll by hand | Reps enroll contacts from records, lists or the inbox. | Up to 50 contacts at a time; depends on people remembering; no rules. |
| Upgrade to Enterprise | Use HubSpot's native workflow action. | The upgrade applies to every seat on the hub: a large cost for one feature. |
| A marketplace app | An app adds an “Enroll in a sequence” action to your workflows; the sequence still runs in HubSpot. | A monthly fee based on volume; the sender still needs a Professional seat and a connected inbox. |
| Marketing emails instead | Send automated marketing emails from the workflow. | Not a sequence: no 1-to-1 emails from a rep's inbox, no tasks, no automatic stop on reply. |
Step by step with EnrollCue
- Check the requirements. Your account has workflows (Professional or Enterprise of any hub), each sender has a Sales Hub or Service Hub Professional seat and a connected inbox, and your sequences are shared with the senders.
- Install EnrollCue from this link or the HubSpot Marketplace, and accept the permissions. It's free up to 50 enrollments a month.
- Open or create a workflow based on contacts, leads, deals, companies or tickets, with the trigger you need: a form submission, a lifecycle stage, a deal stage, a lead score…
- Add the action: click +, search for EnrollCue, choose Enroll in a sequence, pick the sequence, and choose who sends it: a specific user, or an owner property such as Contact owner or Deal owner.
- For deals, companies and tickets, choose whether to enroll all associated contacts or only those with an association label, such as Decision maker.
- Turn the workflow on. Each contact that reaches the action is enrolled, and the emails go out from the sender's inbox.
To stop a sequence automatically, for example when a deal is won, add the Unenroll from sequence action in the same way. The setup guide covers every setting.
Good practices
- Protect your inboxes. A workflow can enroll hundreds of contacts at once. Keep a daily limit per sender: EnrollCue applies 100 per sender per day by default, and spreads the rest over the following days.
- Remember the follow-ups. A sequence of 4 emails multiplies the daily volume: count it when you set limits.
- One contact, one sequence. HubSpot only allows one active sequence per contact. Unenroll first if a contact should switch sequences.
- Branch on errors. The action returns an error code (for example an unsubscribed contact) that you can use in an if/then branch.
Questions
Can HubSpot Professional enroll contacts in sequences automatically?
Not with HubSpot's own workflow action, which requires Sales Hub or Service Hub Enterprise. A marketplace app such as EnrollCue adds that action to Professional accounts.
Does the sender still need a paid seat?
Yes. HubSpot sends sequence emails from a user with a Sales Hub or Service Hub Professional or Enterprise seat and a connected inbox. That doesn't change with an app.
Can I enroll contacts from a deal workflow?
Yes. EnrollCue enrolls the deal's associated contacts, all of them or only those with an association label such as Decision maker, and can send as the deal owner. It works the same for companies and tickets.
Can a workflow also unenroll contacts?
Yes, with EnrollCue's Unenroll from sequence action, from any sequence or only a specific one.
How much does it cost?
EnrollCue is free up to 50 enrollments a month. Pro is $35 a month ($29 billed yearly) for 300 enrollments, and Business is $89 a month ($75 billed yearly) for 5,000.
